English & Communication

A voice to share ideas. A language to open doors

Confident Readers. Thoughtful Writers. Expressive Speakers

Read with Understanding

A rich reading culture introduces fiction, non-fiction, poetry and information texts. Learners build vocabulary, infer meaning, compare viewpoints and discover the pleasure of books.

Additional Language Support

Where appropriate, English as a Second Language strategies may support listening, speaking, reading and writing at different proficiency levels. Any separate ESL programme will depend on the approved subject selection

Speak with Purpose

Children tell stories, ask questions, discuss texts, present ideas and learn to listen respectfully. We value clear thinking as much as fluent expression

Write with Confidence

Writing develops from sentences to increasingly purposeful explanations, narratives, descriptions, reports and persuasive texts. Feedback helps children revise and improve

Language is the foundation of learning across every subject. Our English programme aims to develop the three connected strands identified in the Oxford subject guide: spoken English, reading and writing.
